Overview
We are a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through inclusive programs, leadership development, and community engagement. Through partnerships, volunteer networks, and strategic fundraising, we build stronger, more inclusive communities across Maine.
As a newer state market launched in 2019, Maine offers significant room for growth. The board is strong and supportive, and team culture is a current strength. This is an opportunity for a builder who wants to shape a growing operation.

The State Director serves as the senior leader for the Maine market, responsible for overall strategy, revenue performance, program execution, team leadership, and community presence. This individual leads a four-person team (one direct report plus three additional full-time staff) and owns the statewide revenue target of $700,000+.
This role requires a hands-on fundraiser who knows the Maine market well and can recruit new donors, volunteers, and grant opportunities while building strong relationships across the board, staff, and donor community.

Scope & Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the annual statewide strategic plan aligned with national priorities and local growth opportunities
  • Own and drive all revenue streams, including events ($425K+) and gifts and foundations ($275K+)
  • Lead Champion of the Year, the flagship fall event (late October, $325K+), including sponsor cultivation, committee management, and hands-on execution
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation partners
  • Lead, coach, and manage a four-person statewide team
  • Build rapport and strong working relationships with staff, board, and donors as an early priority
  • Partner with the board to help define and develop board roles and engagement structure
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality program implementation and volunteer engagement, including growth of the Transitions program
  • Oversee state budget management, forecasting, reporting, and operational infrastructure
  • Serve as the primary public ambassador for the organization throughout Maine

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • 4 to 7+ years of progressive fundraising experience with demonstrated revenue growth
  • 3 to 5+ years of team leadership and supervisory experience
  • Experience leading fundraising events and cultivating major gifts
  • Strong knowledge of the Maine market, with the ability to recruit new donors, volunteers, and grant opportunities
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with boards and volunteers preferred
  • Comfortable engaging with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for events
  • Access to reliable transportation
