Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesJob DutiesThe Commonwealth of Virginia has an opening for a Magistrate position in the Newport News Magistrate Office in Magisterial Region 8. Although the primary location for this position is Newport News a Magistrate is appointed to a Region and may be assigned anywhere within the Region. Region 8 includes Southampton and Isle of Wight Counties and the Cities of Franklin Suffolk Chesapeake Hampton and Newport News. Principal offices are in Suffolk Chesapeake Hampton and Newport News.Minimum Qualifications The most competitive candidates will possessMinimum QualificationsUnder § 19.2-37of the Code of Virginia a Magistrate must be a United States citizen be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia and have a bachelors degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
