Job Title: Machinist
Location: Houston TX 77041
Duration: 06+ Months
Shift: 5AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Friday, required most Saturdays 6 hours up to 8 hours

Summary:
Position Title: Machinist II

This position is responsible for setting up and operating all CNC 2-axis lathes and CNC 3-axis mills, CNC machines, manual mill and lathe in order to produce products to customer requirements. This position also has the ability to design fixtures or work holding jigs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Level I Functions:
  • Operates CNC controlled metal-cutting and related processing machines and equipment. Machines and equipment included, but not limited to, turning lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, and saws for a wide range of differing materials.
  • Plans and performs setups, first article layouts, and execution of work according to product specifications, blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Inspects all materials, components, etc. to assure they meet the accepted quality standards.
  • Participates in Lean events with active involvement in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of tools and machinery while performing daily tasks. Responsible for the safety of others working in the area while performing daily tasks. Responsible for the reporting of unsafe acts or conditions to supervision immediately as noticed.
  • Must immediately shut down production and report safety or quality concern(s) to a supervisor, engineer, manager, EHS or Quality representative.
  • Ensure accurate movement of inventory through their assigned area – transactions, production reporting, resolution of negatives, etc...
  • Completes required inspection documentation, marking of heat #'s and hold tags.
  • Proficient in Oracle. Must employ Oracle to navigate and execute tasks to complete work orders, WIP transactions, material workbench, supply demand, material requirements, simulate discrete jobs, etc.
  • Perform daily maintenance check sheet.

Level II Functions:
  • Operates all 2-axis lathes and 3-axis mills CNC controlled metal-cutting and related processing machines and equipment; knowledge of digital readouts is required. Machines and equipment included, but not limited to, turning lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, and mill turn, for a wide range of differing materials.
  • Qualified to train others, can run to standard work, will catch variance in others production technique and be able to correct issue.
  • Assists in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of less experienced machinist. Document training.
  • Execute and track shift performance with GEMBA boards on a daily basis ensuring root-cause analysis and identify counter measures.
  • Complete and report PR's and ECN reports.
  • Perform layered process audits and quality audits as assigned. Perform first piece quality audits and roving audits as required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process as it pertains to your respective production cell(s).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred high school diploma or GED
  • 5 years of related CNC and/or manual machinist experience.
  • 2 year degree in Machining Technology or CNC Machining trade school certificate preferred.
  • Experience in ERP systems, Oracle preferred.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Level I KSA’s:
  • Qualified to operate some machining equipment alone, meets expectations for quality and productivity, can handle some setups and all documentation alone.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Possess the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate assembly and measuring tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Requires ability to read, speak and write in English, follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and Bills of Material (BOM).
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools and measuring devices such as height gauges, calipers, micrometers and thread gauges.
  • Ability to understand M-Code and G-Code programming.
  • Effectively use email to communicate (potential) risks to safety, quality, delivery and productivity.
  • Must have a complete understanding of applicable middleware software applications and demonstrate the ability to navigate options.
  • Ability to use Windchill (Product Data Management application).
  • Ability to use personal computer and/or workstation.
  • Ability to meet TAKT Time and quality standards.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Forklift certification.

Level II KSA’s:
  • All knowledge, skills and abilities required at Machinist I level.
  • Able to work with limited supervisory guidance.
  • Effectively use email to communicate (potential) risks to safety, quality, delivery and productivity.
  • Must have a complete understanding of applicable middleware software applications and demonstrate the ability to navigate options.
  • Ability to use Windchill, complete problem report, and follow through with changes as required.
  • Ability to interface with inter-departments in order to meet the goals of the business.
  • Qualified to train others, can run to standard work, will catch variance in other production techniques and be able to correct issue in most machining equipment. Ability to operate and setup most machining equipment.
  • Ability to edit M-Code and G-Code programming.
  • Lean and Continuous Improvement knowledge.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs
  • Must be able to drive motorized equipment
  • Must be able to stand for periods up to 4 hours
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends
  • Speaking, hearing, writing, measuring will be constant
  • Bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, stretching, squatting and walking frequent
