Job Details

This role blends hands-on shop leadership with administrative and planning responsibilities. The position oversees daily production activities, including scheduling work, distributing workloads, and monitoring shop performance. Responsibilities also include mentoring team members, improving workflow efficiency, and ensuring materials, tooling, and equipment are prepared ahead of production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate production operations, including staffing, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficiency and quality outcomes.
  • Supervise machinists and shop personnel to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Oversee setup and machining processes on various equipment, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, setup efficiency, and overall shop performance.
  • Manage tooling, materials, and equipment needs, including ordering and maintenance coordination.
  • Train and mentor team members on best practices and safe, efficient operations.
  • Schedule work, assign tasks, and track productivity metrics for reporting purposes.
  • Foster a culture focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide time estimates for jobs and monitor actual performance against targets.
  • Ensure all materials, tooling, and programs are ready prior to production start.
  • Communicate regular updates on production status to management and participate in team meetings.

Qualifications
  • Hands-on machining experience required, including setup of CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming fundamentals (e.g., G-code) with the ability to support and troubleshoot machine setups across various equipment types.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Extensive experience in CNC machining setup and operations.
  • Experience with a variety of machining equipment and configurations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced machining techniques and automated systems is a plus.
  • Experience working with a range of metals and materials, including difficult-to-machine alloys.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High school diploma, GED, or technical/trade school certification preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring and inspection tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
