Job Summary

The Machine Operator III is a senior production role responsible for independently operating, monitoring, and adjusting manufacturing or processing equipment to ensure safe, high‑quality, and efficient production. This position applies advanced machine operation knowledge, troubleshooting capability, and strong quality awareness to resolve non‑routine issues and maintain consistent output. Working under limited supervision, the Machine Operator III has a direct impact on production stability, equipment performance, and quality results and may provide guidance to less experienced operators.

Job Description

Role Overview

The Machine Operator III serves as an experienced contributor within manufacturing operations, often assigned to more complex equipment, product variants, or critical process steps. Compared to intermediate roles, this position operates with significant autonomy, performs routine troubleshooting and adjustments, and supports continuous improvement efforts. The role works closely with maintenance, technicians, quality, and supervision to ensure production goals, safety standards, and quality requirements are met.

The position typically reports to a Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, or Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Machine Operation & Production Execution

Independently operate complex production machines or integrated equipment cells

Set up, start, adjust, and monitor equipment to meet production and quality requirements

Perform machine changeovers, parameter adjustments, or tool changes as trained

Consistently meet or exceed productivity, efficiency, and output targets

Quality Monitoring & Process Control

Perform detailed visual and basic functional inspections of produced parts

Monitor process parameters and identify trends or deviations affecting quality

Take corrective action for routine quality or process issues within authority

Ensure compliance with quality standards, documentation, and traceability requirements

Equipment Care & Troubleshooting

Perform routine and intermediate machine adjustments and troubleshooting

Clear jams, address alarms, and resolve common mechanical or process issues

Conduct routine checks, cleaning, and preventive maintenance tasks as assigned

Coordinate with maintenance or technical teams for complex repairs or recurring issues

Safety, Compliance & Operational Discipline

Strictly follow safety rules, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout awareness practices

Promote safe work practices and identify potential hazards or risks

Ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and operational policies

Report incidents, near misses, or equipment hazards promptly

Team Support & Continuous Improvement

Provide informal guidance, coaching, or assistance to Machine Operator I-II roles

Share best practices for machine operation, quality, and efficiency

Support cross‑training and skill development within the team

Participate in continuous improvement, kaizen, or standard work initiatives

Scope & Impact

Significant impact at the production line, cell, or equipment level

Work includes non‑routine issues requiring independent judgment and technical skill

Errors may affect quality, throughput, or equipment reliability if not addressed promptly

Contributes directly to production efficiency, safety performance, and quality consistency

Qualifications

Education & Experience

No formal education required

Significant experience operating manufacturing or processing equipment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced working knowledge of machine operation and production processes

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

Ability to independently follow complex work instructions and operating procedures

Attention to detail and strong quality awareness

Effective communication and teamwork skills

Dependability and commitment to safety and continuous improvement
