Job Opening: Machine Excellence Diagnostic Specialist

The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN currently has an opening for a Machine Excellence Diagnostic Specialist. In this role, you will have the responsibility to use a variety of metrology equipment to perform diagnostic and troubleshooting of complex domestic and foreign machine tools and related equipment.

Requirements:

Applicant should possess experience in utilizing one or more of the following systems:

• API 6D laser • API & Leica tracker laser • Hamar laser • Renishaw ball-bar • Electronic levels • API spindle analyzer

to diagnose machine tool conditions. Schedules and performs proactive diagnostic inspections on machine tools and related equipment to achieve quality improvements. This individual will assist in supporting the maintenance team to troubleshoot electrical or mechanical problems that may arise.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Correct or improve geometrical accuracy and dimensional tolerances on equipment to comply with B5.54 methods. • Assist in the geometrical tolerancing and B5.54 compliance testing for new machine tool purchases.

Equipment and Tools:

The following is a list of the types of machines and components that work will be performed on, tools the applicant will use, and relative information on the job:

• Equipment: DMG, G&L, Mazak, Lamb, Landis (grinders), Waldrich Coburg, Ingersoll, Toyoda, Niles and a variety of others in the machine shop. • Applicant will use API 6D laser, API and Leica Tracking laser, Hamar laser, Renishaw ball bar, electronic levels, and API spindle analyzer to diagnose machine tool condition. • Ability to create, manipulate, and chart, using electronic spreadsheets to achieve desired results. • Applicant must be able to read and understand machine tool prints, interpret CMM reports, and work with tight tolerances. • Applicant should have a thorough understanding of leveling and alignment of machines. • Applicant should possess a thorough understanding of machine tool controls, control functions, machine tool offsets, compensations and basic programming. • Applicant must be willing to travel as needed and work necessary overtime to complete projects and assignments.

Basic Qualifications:

Applicant must have successfully completed an approved skilled trades apprenticeship program or possess a minimum of three years of experience in the lasering and/or alignment of machine tools and related equipment (listed above).

Additional Requirements:

• Applicant must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces. • Applicant must be willing to work large amounts of overtime to support production goals. • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work at heights, climb ladders, work underground, and in confined spaces. • Candidates for all positions must have the ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, and technical environment. • Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours. • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

Work Environment:

Location of this position is in Lafayette, IN

Primary shift will be 2nd shift 3:30pm-11:30pm, however, this position will allow the applicant to spend time on 1st and or 3rd shift for training and to support our customer requirements.

Relocation assistance is available for this position.
