Overview
We are seeking a skilled Machine Builder II to assemble, test, and commission highly customized industrial filling machines. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with strong mechanical assembly experience and working knowledge of electrical cabling and troubleshooting. You’ll work closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams to deliver complex automation solutions that meet customer and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble fully customized, complex filling machines according to detailed engineering drawings and specifications
- Perform mechanical and electrical assembly, including cabling and basic electrical troubleshooting
- Collaborate with engineers to resolve mechanical and electrical challenges during machine builds
- Modify or fabricate parts using hand tools, power tools, and basic machining equipment
- Inspect, test, and adjust completed machines to ensure quality and performance standards are met
- Conduct machine testing, commissioning, checkouts, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
- Complete build documentation and coordinate with vendors and sales teams as needed
- Identify and communicate inventory shortages, BOM errors, and quality concerns; assist with NCRs/ECRs
- Support customer needs by tracking down parts and responding to urgent service requests
- Maintain accurate build records and documentation
- Follow all safety protocols and quality standards
- Occasionally assist with customer installations or on-site service visits
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and basic electrical schematics
- Proven mechanical assembly skills with high attention to detail
- Experience with electrical cabling and troubleshooting
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and basic fabrication equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate forklifts and/or scissor lifts
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical diploma or associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of experience assembling industrial equipment
- Experience with packaging machinery or automation systems is a plus
Certifications
- Forklift and scissor lift certification (or ability to obtain)
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and industrial odors
- Required use of PPE including safety glasses, safety-toe footwear, and hearing protection
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and use of hands
- Occasional climbing, balancing, and reaching above shoulder height
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs
