The Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator Registered Nurse coordinates care for patients with a ventricular assist device in collaboration with Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart Failure Medical Directors. Working under general supervision, this role focuses on improving patient outcomes for this high-risk patient population.
Essential Job Function
- Prepares patients before operations by educating the patient and caregivers along with communicating with the surgeon and cardiologist.
- Prepare patients before operations by completing necessary evaluations and testing and communicating with the surgeon and cardiologist.
- Evaluates patients to collect data and share it with the VAD team to provide a communication link for the coordination of efficient care.
- Mentors the Ventricular Assist Device Program and Nursing Department in order to build knowledge of the technical skills required for this high-risk population of patients.
- Educates patients and families on the ventricular assist devices and the necessary post-surgical care, including medications and daily routines in order to ensure a safe discharge.
- Modifies patient treatment care plans using data and responses to treatments in order to improve patient care and outcomes.
- Supports quality initiatives and joint commission standards of care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
- Required: Associate's DegreePreferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience
- Required: 3 years as a Registered Nurse and 1 year in a clinical specialty as defined by ANCC or national nursing organizations
Licensure/Certification/Listing
- Required:Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a Compact stateBLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
