JOB SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse LPN is responsible for providing basic nursing care to clinic patients following established standards and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow. • Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms. • Observes records and reports patients conditions and reactions to drugs and treatment to providers. • Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. • Collecting patient history, including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc. • Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care as directed by provider, this may include screenings and administering medications and treatments in accordance with clinical and nursing standards. • Prepares equipment and aids providers during treatment, examination, and testing of patients, and with various procedures as needed. • Timely and accurate documentation in patient charts, relaying information & instructions to patient/family. Document all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data, etc. in medical record EMR. • Demonstrates knowledge of safe medication administration and administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. • Answering patient phone calls & messages and acting as a communication liaison between the patient and provider. • Collection and handling of lab specimens following established standards and practices. Adhere to infection control safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments, and stock supplies. • Utilizes electronic referral process to complete requested physician referrals to NCH Healthcare Group specialists and ancillary services. • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include filing or sending medical records to a patient or referral provider appointment scheduling. • Knows the general condition of the equipment at all times knows how to operate all equipment required in the course of performing procedures. Documents failures in a timely manner. • Knowledgeable about treatments administered and studies performed as well as any preparation of the patient which may be required prior to the test being performed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of High School or GED required. • Minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare facility or private physician office preferred. • Licensed as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Florida. • Basic Life Support BLS certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. • Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients. • Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes. • Knowledge of basic and specialty medical terminology. • Intermediate computer knowledge. Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
