At HSS at NCH youll find a career that fosters your growth and empowers people to move better live healthier and make a lasting impact.JOB SUMMARYThe Licensed Practical Nurse LPN supports the Orthopedic HSS outpatient department by working under the direct supervision of the of the physician in the area of clinical operation patient care and education.This employee will work directly with one provider.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned.• Escorting patients to examprocedure rooms. Observes records and reports patients conditions and reactions to drugs and treatment to providers.• Conducts patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions including entering information into the EMR.• As directed by the physician instruct patients on prescribed home exercise program.• Assist physician within office procedures including patient education obtaining patient consent preparation of materials and supplies and assisting physician with patient positioning.• Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers dressing collecting specimenspreparing for exam etc.• Performs accuracy in medication preparation as directed by physician.• Assists with incoming patient calls and transcribes patient messages to discuss with the physician.• Assist with chart preparation and obtain study reports and progress notes for physician review.• Conducts initial assessment of the patient with orthopedic pathology.• Presents the patient case to the physician or physician assistant.• Performs clinical responsibilities under the supervision of the physician which may include taking vitals phlebotomy application and removal of casts and splints wound care suture removal fitting DME gait training and patient education.• Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include requesting and scanning outside patient records uploading outside images into the PACs system sending medical records to a patient or referring provider scheduling and rescheduling patient appointments.• Knows the general condition of the equipment at all times knows how to operate all equipment required in the course of performing procedures. Documents failures in a timely manner.• Knowledgeable about Orthopedic treatments tests and procedures as well as any preparation of the patient which may be required prior to the testprocedures being performed. • Maintains clinic supplies.• Maintains a clean and orderly clinical area.EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS · Minimum of High School or GED required. · Minimum of 1 year of experience in health care facility or private physician office preferred. · Licensed as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Florida. · Orthopedic experience preferred. · Basic Life Support BLS certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. · Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients. · Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes. · Epic experience preferred · Knowledge of basic and specialty medical terminology.
