We are seeking a dedicated and proficient Locum Physician Assistant to support our busy surgical program at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. What You’ll Do:
Assist in complex cardiothoracic procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, thoracotomy, and lung resections. Your role will encompass OR responsibilities, telemetry monitoring, ICU duties, and participation in inpatient rounds. You’ll support our cardiac team during scheduled call days, weekends, and holidays, ensuring continuous patient care. This position requires the ability to execute procedures, manage postoperative care, and support surgical workflows in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills:
- Certified Physician Assistant with current KY licensure or eligibility
- Proficient in first assisting during CABG, AVR, MVR, thoracotomy, and lung resections
- Strong skills in OR duties, ICU, and telemetry monitoring
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, call shifts, and holidays
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience in cardiothoracic surgery or ICU settings
- Familiarity with Epic EMR system
- Additional certifications in ACLS or ATLS
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent
- At least 2 years of surgical PA experience, especially within cardiothoracic procedures
- Previous locum or temporary staffing experience is a plus
Other Requirements:
- Must hold an active KY license and be able to perform procedures independently
- No malpractice issues; adherence to all state and facility credentialing protocols
- Ability to start by May 3, 2026, with ongoing availability for scheduled dates, including critical dates from June 6-8, 2026
- Willingness to travel from local areas; preferred lodging at The Campbell House or other designated hotels
