We are actively recruiting a dedicated Locum PA to provide expert assistance in the operating room, supporting adult patients within a dynamic, trauma-level 2 environment. What You'll Do:
- Assist surgeons in adult cardiothoracic surgeries within the inpatient OR setting.
- Perform essential procedures including central venous and dialysis catheter placements, arterial line insertions, retrieval of vascular tissue for bypass, chest tube insertions, and thoracentesis.
- Contribute to patient care alongside a supervising physician present during procedures.
- Maintain compliance with EMR protocols using Epic and adhere to all safety and procedural standards.
- Work a schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with rotational call responsibilities and a call ratio of approximately 1:4.
- Manage an average caseload of 4-8 patients daily, ensuring quality and attentive care.
Required Skills:
- NCCPA certification.
- Valid Michigan state license prior to starting (no pending licenses accepted).
- Minimum of 1 year of prior cardiothoracic OR experience; new graduates are not eligible.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications through the American Heart Association.
- Proven ability to perform procedures listed above, with robotic experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong surgical assistance skills and capability to work effectively under supervision with a physician present in the OR.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience with intraaortic balloon pump placement.
- Prior exposure to robotic surgery.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Physician Assistant degree from an accredited program.
- At least 1 year of dedicated cardiothoracic OR practice experience.
- Proficiency with EPIC EMR system.
Other Requirements:
- Credentialing estimated to take approximately 90-120 days.
- Willingness to adhere to call schedules, including 8-12 hour shifts with gratuity hours included, and 24-hour shifts.
- Travel and licensing reimbursements where applicable.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, trauma Level 2 environment.
