Job Description Title - Local School Assistant Bookkeeper
Reports To: Principal and Chief School Financial Officer
FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt
Job Goal: To help maintain complete and systematic set of financial records while assisting all staff and administration with the business affairs of the local school.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting preferred
- Previous experience in computerized accounting systems preferred
- Basic knowledge of accounting procedures

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and priorities.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of all school business, staff and students' information as outlined in the Blount County Security Use Agreement, Responsible Use Policy, FERPA and any and all state and federal laws and statues.
- Must follow Board Policy and Local School Accounting Policies and Procedures.
- Assists local school principal and head bookkeeper with account balances and proper accounting protocols by helping to verify signatures, etc.
- Utilizes school system-provided budgeting software and documents in accordance to directives provided by the CSFO.
- Verifies and reconciles items received against open purchase orders and delivers to teacher classrooms.
- Assist with purchases of Title funds and/or state grants housed at the Central Office.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare daily deposits of cash or assists other designated personnel. Receives, counts, receipts, and posts all monies coming through the office for general account and special accounts.
- Assists in preparing annual school budget, including athletics and other school sponsored clubs.

- Reconciles and enters bus trip mileage and drivers for all extracurricular trips in approved software.
- Assist teachers in financial planning or reconciliation for field trips as needed.
- Collaborates with the Local School Accounting/Fixed Asset bookkeeper.
- Keep accurate records by updating approved software of all local school inventory.
- Assist auditors in obtaining data needed for audits.
- Acts as support when secretary/receptionist is unable to fulfill duties.
- Reconciles all staff absences of the local school to approved Absence Management software on a weekly/monthly basis.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and procedures.
- Maintain security of records and files, following federal, state, and local laws for record keeping.
- Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment and materials resources of the school system.
- Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development as directed by the principal or CSFO.
- Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent, principal and CSFO.
- Perform duties in a manner that will promote good public relations.
Terms of employment: 182-days
Daily work schedule will be determined by the principal or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school assigned. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.
Salary:
Approved salary schedule for Local School Assistant Bookkeeper (High School) is located on the Human Resources webpage. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week with daily full-time equivalent of 37.5 standard work hours.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
