About the Agency

The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is the states lead economic and community development agency. MDA recruits new companies to Mississippi, helps existing companies expand and provides support to foster growth and new opportunities in a variety of areas, including energy, small and minority business, trade, film, retiree recruitment and more. Additionally, MDA attracts millions of visitors to the state each year through Visit Mississippi, the tourism division of the agency. MDA also supports pass-through funding and provides support for a variety of grant programs and non-profits, such as Innovate Mississippi and Mississippi Main Street Association.

About the Position

This position is with the Mississippi Development Authority, Business Incentives Division, and is located in Hinds County. The official MSPB classification title is Economic Development Specialist III. The working title for this position is Loan Bureau Manager. The incumbent will perform seasoned professional work managing and administering loan, bond, and financing programs that support business development, business retention, expansion, and economic growth in Mississippi. Programs may include Minority Business Enterprise, Capital Access, Existing Industry, Port and Airport Loan programs, and the Federal State Small Business Credit Initiative. The incumbent will provide technical assistance to businesses, local economic development organizations, local units of government, and other stakeholders regarding program requirements, application processes, financing options, policies, and procedures. Duties include reviewing and evaluating applications, coordinating servicing activities for financing programs, assisting with feasible financing packages, applying state statutes and program rules, preparing records and reports, and supporting the efficient administration of assigned programs. This position may also provide guidance, training, task coordination, and work review for assigned staff to support effective program operations and achievement of division objectives.

To be successful in this position, the applicant should have related experience in banking, commercial lending, agribusiness lending, loan processing, economic development financing, or a closely related field. The successful candidate should possess strong decision-making, communication, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with businesses, local governments, economic development organizations, agency staff, and other stakeholders. Preferred skills include proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; knowledge of public administration, budgeting, administrative law, state purchasing or bid requirements; experience reviewing financial or program documentation; and experience assisting with program operations, staff guidance, training, or work coordination.

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience. Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave
