Lakeside Middle School is looking for a positive, energetic, and student-centered 1st Assistant Football Coach who is ready to help young athletes fall in love with the game while learning what it means to compete with effort, discipline, and character.

Middle school football is where many students first discover confidence, teamwork, toughness, and pride in representing their school. This position is more than teaching plays and fundamentals. It is an opportunity to help shape the kind of teammates, leaders, and young people our students are becoming.

The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, patience, strong communication, and a genuine desire to build relationships with student-athletes. We are looking for someone who can support the Head Coach, teach the game safely and effectively, encourage students through the challenges of competition, and help create a football experience that students will remember for the right reasons.

Salary: The current 20252026 salary range for the position is: Min. $1,530 to Max. $2,720. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Schedules can be reviewed from the Human Resources page of the Nine Mile Falls School District www.9mile.org. Classified, Substitute staff who would be in an overtime situation (more than 40 hours per week in cumulative work hours) if they received this position, may not be eligible for this opening.

Nature and Scope of Position: (1 or 2 sentence summary of position)

The 1st Assistant Football Coach supports the Head Coach in leading a safe, organized, and positive middle school football program. This position assists with practices, skill development, game preparation, student supervision, equipment care, communication, and the overall development of student-athletes.

The coach will help teach football fundamentals, reinforce team expectations, model sportsmanship, and support a program culture that reflects the values of Lakeside Middle School and the Nine Mile Falls School District.

Position Reports To: Athletic Director - Devin Bauer, in coordination with the Lakeside Middle School Head Football Coach

Season: Fall 2026/2027

Primary Job Functions

  • Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and carrying out practices, games, team activities, and program expectations.
  • Teach and reinforce age-appropriate football fundamentals, including safe blocking, tackling progression, position skills, offensive and defensive concepts, conditioning, and teamwork.
  • Support a positive team culture built on effort, accountability, respect, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
  • Provide active supervision of student-athletes before, during, and after practices, games, travel, and team activities.
  • Help maintain a safe practice and competition environment by following district, league, WIAA, and sport-specific safety expectations.
  • Model and teach appropriate conduct, emotional control, teamwork, and respect for teammates, opponents, officials, families, staff, and the community.
  • Assist with monitoring student-athlete eligibility, attendance, behavior expectations, and participation requirements.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with student-athletes, families, coaching staff, school staff, and the Athletic Director.
  • Assist with issuing, collecting, inventorying, and caring for football equipment, uniforms, and related materials.
  • Support the Head Coach with game preparation, sideline organization, position-group coaching, and post-game responsibilities.
  • Encourage student-athletes to represent Lakeside Middle School and Nine Mile Falls School District with integrity, pride, and positive character.
  • Complete required trainings, certifications, and WIAA coaching requirements within established timelines.
  • Perform other related coaching duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or building/district administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications (Traits, Education, Experience, Training, physical requirements, etc.):

  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • WSP/FBI fingerprint clearance.
  • High school diploma or completed GED.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required WIAA coaching standards and clock hours.
  • Knowledge of football fundamentals, safe coaching techniques, and age-appropriate skill development.
  • Ability to work positively and effectively with middle school student-athletes.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with students, families, staff, coaches, and administration.
  • Commitment to sportsmanship, student safety, teamwork, and positive character development.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous successful experience coaching football at the middle school, high school, collegiate, or approved youth/club level.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, teach, and connect with young athletes.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture.
  • Experience helping students build confidence, resilience, accountability, and strong team habits.
  • Ability to support the Head Coachs program vision while bringing positive energy and initiative to the role.
