Job Summary:
The Literacy Support Specialist possesses the necessary certifications, knowledge, skills, and dispositions to demonstrate thorough planning, deliver engaging instruction, facilitate formative and summative assessments aligned with Archdiocesan standards, and participate in professional activities and ongoing learning. Candidates must employ a variety of teaching strategies and be committed to differentiating instruction and assessment to meet the needs of individual learners, taking into account children''s learning needs. Candidates must be able to provide a secure, comfortable, respectful, and inviting learning environment that motivates and challenges students to achieve at their highest level. Candidates must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work with and communicate with their students, parents, and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with and assist classroom teachers by providing both in-classroom and pull-out instructional support for students identified as needing literacy and math support
- Play an integral role in assessment management, data coordination, RtI planning
- Serve as a key member of the school''s Learning Support Team
- Manage the school's Book Share account for students with learning differences
- Responsible for program design and individualized literacy and math instruction for our students with intellectual disabilities or other complex learning needs
- Meet 20/30 minutes per day, assess their progress
- Complete progress reports for each student during each trimester
- Complete report cards for each student at the end of each trimester
- Communicate with the classroom teacher on student progress
- Provide an atmosphere for learning; maintain classroom discipline
- Prepare and set up materials for learning activities
- Assist children as needed for individual learning
- Assist children in the areas of self-help skills
- Incorporate appropriate and effective child guidance for the individual child
- Promote an anti-bias, diverse culture within the classroom
- Contribute to the effective operations of the overall program
