Education:
High school diploma, vocational school diploma, or equivalency certificate required, along with two (2) years of formal training in hydraulics, electrical/electronics, computers, pneumatics, PLC’s, SCADA, or related fields. Satisfactory completion of the Introduction to Wastewater Treatment course is required.
Experience and License Requirements:
Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in collection system monitoring and/or instrumentation work. Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver’s license. A C1 Collection System license is preferred.
Requirements:
Must possess knowledge of the theoretical and practical applications of flow metering principles and practices and computerized control systems. Must be familiar with pipe and manhole assessment protocols, as well as be able to clean, calibrate and repair electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation. Must possess knowledge of the standard tools, materials and equipment, along with the occupational and safety hazards and precautions, involved in performing all work. Must be able to read and comprehend engineering and construction drawings, electronic and electrical schematics, and pneumatic and hydraulic flow diagrams. Must be able to work with personnel to effectively diagnose equipment and/or system failures. Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24-hour basis. Must be able to read, write, communicate and understand English sufficiently to perform the functions of the position and execute verbal and written directions.
Physical Demands:
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself and others are maintained. This includes, but is not limited to, physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), kneeling, sitting, standing, working from elevated areas, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping, handling heavy objects, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, manual dexterity, using a keyboard, and minor use of tools, as well as visual acuity, hearing and speaking. The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) a large publicly-owned wastewater treatment facility located in Newark, New Jersey, is currently seeking a Line Instrumentation Technician III. Created in 1902, PVSC is the 5th largest facility of its kind in the United States, directly serving approximately 1.5 million residents in 48 municipalities located in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union Counties. The 140-acre plant is designed to treat an average of 330 million gallons per day (“mgd”) of wastewater, with an annual average flow of approximately 241 mgd.
Position Summary: Assists with the operation, maintenance and calibration of user charge flow metering collection system instrumentation and signal communications. Conducts asset inspections and satellite monitoring station sampling.
