Job Summary

This position will provide instruction in the Department of Teacher Education.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing

  • Teach primarily face-to-face undergraduate courses in Elementary Education pedagogy, assessment, curriculum, child development.
  • Support teacher candidates in their development into effective educators.
  • Supervise teacher candidates in field placements
  • May also teach GC1Y (typically freshmen)/GC2Y (typically sophomore) core courses; and/or other courses in areas of expertise
  • Teach 5-5 course load each fall and spring semesters. 15 credit hours per semester
  • Georgia College & State University seeks faculty who understand and embrace our public liberal arts mission and are dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through teaching, scholarship and service
  • All Georgia College & State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike

Faculty - Professional Development

  • Ability to effectively participate in professional development and apply the new knowledge and skills to ones practice
  • Although lecturers are not required to engage in disseminating scholarly activities or research, engaging in scholarly activity that informs classroom instruction is strongly encouraged. Scholarship of teaching and learning is especially valued

Faculty - Service to Institution

All faculty are expected to engage in service

Some examples include:

  • committee memberships
  • advisement of students
  • participation in special programs or projects
  • service in the community/local schools
  • other service to the institution

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Successful candidates are expected to have:

  • A Masters level degree in Elementary Education or similar field
  • Evidence of successful teaching (higher education and/or a minimum of 3 years teaching experience with elementary learners)
  • Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org [faculty credentials])

Other Required Qualifications

  • Collaboration and collegiality with department, college, and university faculty and staff
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds
  • Able to conduct face-to-face (classroom-based) and online classes

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D., EdD., or ABD degrees are preferred
  • Face-to-face and online course design experience
  • Working knowledge of Quality Matters Standards
  • Experience with accreditation reporting
