The Investment Areas Team is looking for a Senior Transportation Planner to play a key role in advancing transportation corridor planning, freight planning and implementation of the regional mobility policy.

As a senior transportation planner you will play an important role in developing and explaining future transportation investments to community members, elected officials and others. With the rest of the Investment Areas team, you will move our region toward more equitable outcomes, more inclusive decision-making and focus policy on building a future where people flourish. This position is supervised by the Investment Areas Manager in the Planning, Development and Research Department.

As the Investment Areas Senior Planner you will

  • Manage transportation corridor development and analysis for use in the 2028 RTP and beyond
  • lead or support a variety of complex regional and transportation planning initiatives, working closely with cities, counties, and other jurisdictional partners.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations of technical and policy issues to the Metro Council, elected officials, project committees, community groups and the general public.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with community, business, and local government partners involved in freight planning
  • Lead implementation of and updates to the regional Mobility Policy, including regional compliance with the federal Congestion Management Process.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in planning and/or related field; AND
  • Three years of technical transportation planning/modeling with extensive computer experience; OR
  • Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.

Hybrid Telework

At this time, this position is designated as "hybrid telework." You will have the option to work away from the office, although there may be times that coming into the office will be required. This position is hybrid with at least one day per week in the office and as needed for in person meetings. Employees must reside in Oregon or Washington to work at Metro

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS AND REPRESENTATON

The full-salary range for this position is step 1: $91,400.94 to step 7: $122,515.70. However, unless a candidate's qualifications justify, based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirementsand Metro's internal equity review process, the appointment will likely be made between step 1: $91,400.94 to the equity range step 4: $105,815.81.

This position is not eligible for overtime and is represented by AFSCME 3580 It is classified as a Senior Transportation Planner.
