Description

A Light Equipment Operator in construction is responsible for operating Compactors, Front-end loaders, and Dump Truck to support construction and maintenance projects. They may also perform manual labor tasks as needed and are often involved in basic equipment maintenance.

  • Operating compactors, front-end loaders, and dump trucks for various construction tasks, including loading, hauling, and unloading materials

  • Responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and performing basic maintenance on the equipment they operate

  • Adhering to all safety regulations and procedures when operating and maintaining equipment is a crucial aspect of the job

  • Loading and unloading materials from trucks and equipment

  • Assisting with site preparation tasks, such as clearing land or grading soil

  • Providing support to construction crews, including transporting materials and equipment, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment

  • Interpret drawings

  • Unload the material

  • Move material to the work area where it will be used

  • Inspect rigging

  • Inspect the equipment

  • Excavate and backfill for foundations, trenches, U/G duct banks and ground gird

  • Grading and compaction

  • Demo concrete

  • Build pads/dirt work

  • Installing RCP pipe/precast manholes

  • Install bedding material for precast structures

  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience operating light equipment in a construction setting

  • Must be able to assess through Burns and McDonnell assessment program

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull

  • Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment

  • Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses

  • Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates

  • Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus

  • Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time

  • Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment
