Definition
The City of Davenport is currently seeking dynamic individuals to fill our seasonal positions in the Aquatic Division for the Parks and Recreation Department. Positions include: Deep Water Lifeguard and Shallow Water Guard.
Free Red Cross Lifeguard training and certification provided with employment.
Starting pay: $12.00 per hour for the first year. Returning employees receive a $0.25 per hour increase each consecutive year until reaching the maximum rate of $13.00 per hour.

Examples Of Duties
Deep Water Lifeguard Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of the guests on the deck and in the deep water areas of the facility; includes accident prevention in the water and the rescue and care of accident victims.
- Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the aquatic facility.
- Enters into all cleanup assignments as assigned. Maintain the pool, deck area and bathhouse in a clean and sanitary condition at all times.
- Participate in all in-service training programs; includes practice of swimming, facility emergency procedures, water rescue, CPR, and first aid skills.
- Perform rescues, artificial respiration, CPR/AED, administers first aid as needed to injured guests.
- Administers first aid to injured or distressed guests and seek medical care for those seriously injured
- Teaches swim lessons in the Learn-To-Swim program as assigned.
Shallow Water Guard Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of the patrons on the deck and in the shallow water areas of the facility; includes accident prevention in the water and the rescue and care of accident victims.
- Observes and enforces all rules and regulations of the aquatics facility.
- Enters into all cleanup assignments as assigned. Maintains deck and grass area picked up and in order.
- Participate in all in-service training programs; includes practice of swimming, facility emergency procedures, water rescue, CPR, and first aid skills.
- Perform rescues, artificial respiration, CPR/AED, administers first aid as needed to injured guests.
- Administers first aid to injured or distressed guests and seeks medical care for those seriously injured.
- Teaches swim lessons in the Learn-To-Swim program as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be at least 15 years of age by the time of hire.
Must possess or earn within one month of hire: American Red Cross Lifeguard with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certificate.
Preferred: Current Water Safety Instructor Certificate or obtain within 3 months of hire.
Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport
