GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, seeks to fill the Life Safety Code (LSC) Healthcare Facility Surveyor position. This position is responsible for surveying state-licensed and federally certified healthcare facilities to evaluate and determine compliance with state and federal life safety regulations. The position provides an opportunity to work and travel in Wyoming, traveling at least 50% of the time.

This position will be located in Cheyenne or Casper and will require working from home in Casper.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Performs life safety code surveys of licensed and/or certified healthcare facilities.
  • Interprets and applies state licensure and federal rules and regulations.
  • Effectively evaluates evidence and makes defendable deficiency determinations.
  • Writes detailed deficiency reports that are legally defendable.
  • Participates in informal dispute resolution hearings, as appropriate.
  • Reviews facility incident reports and complaint information for appropriate follow-up.
  • Provides and/or coordinates training activities.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to a bachelors degree in a construction-related field or healthcare (fire science, engineering, or architecture) and at least two years of work experience in the preferred field.

Must pass required training within 6 months of employment.

Must have a valid drivers license.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge and comprehension in the application and interpretation of the following codes and standards: NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, NFPA 99, Standards for Health care Facilities, NFPA 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for certifying and licensing health care facilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, discriminate, and make sound decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (typically in Healthcare)

Experience:

0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites
  • Ability to access rooftops, attic spaces, or crawl spaces
