Life & Health Consumer Services Specialist
Anticipated Salary Range: $60,000-$73,000 Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a Life & Health Consumer Services Specialist who has a passion for public service and an interest in supporting Virginia consumers. Joining the SCCs Bureau of Insurance (BOI), the L&H Consumer Services Specialist responds to inquiries from providers and consumers involving insurance agents, agencies, and companies regarding life insurance, health insurance, long-term care insurance, managed care plans, rate increase notice requirements, provider credentialing, pharmacy benefit management, and the ethics and fairness complaint process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Receive review, investigate, and resolve insurance complaints from consumers and providers who reach out via phone, email, fax, or the Bureaus online portal. • Conduct an in-depth review and analysis of Virginias insurance laws or regulations (Title 38.2 of the Code of Virginia) to determine compliance. • Request all pertinent documentation from the insurance company and agent. • Thoroughly document all steps of the investigation and take action to resolve complaints within a designated time frame. • Enter complete and accurate case information in Sircon in accordance with the Complaint Data System (CDS) guidelines. • Communicate with consumers, agents, agencies, providers, and insurance companies over the phone and in writing in a calm, patient, and professional manner. • Refer potential violations to management for review or refer to the proper regulatory authority if the complaint or inquiry is outside of the Bureaus jurisdiction. • Collaborate with coworkers, management, and other SCC staff to ensure communication is contextually sound and accurate. • Provide assistance to public, legislative, and government officials regarding issues that fall within the Bureaus regulatory authority. • Participate in outreach events, conferences, special projects, and other duties as assigned. • Stay informed on federal and state rules and regulations and complete continuing education in the insurance industry.
