Summary

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement a meaningful Life Enrichment Program. Develop and implement a monthly schedule of programs that incorporates the seven aspects of wellness and engagement: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environment and occupational. The scheduled programs should include a variety of individual, small group, and large events presented in adult learning style.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Plan activities that encourage resident interaction and participation in outdoor and indoor recreation, promoting healthful living and a positive outlook.

The Life Enrichment program should be balanced, considering the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual, environmental, and occupational needs of the residents. Include parallel programs or modification of activities that are meaningful, respectful, and failure-free for residents with physical and cognitive challenges.

Create a monthly Calendar of Events, in consultation with the Administrator and administrative personnel, and have such calendar posted within the community and available for residents.

Provide small group programs and room visits for residents who do not participate in group activities.

Create life enrichment and engagement opportunities for residents at end of life.

Create Life Stories for each resident.

Develop small group programs for residents in need of emotional and behavioral support.

Continued encouragement of positive and healthful living habits and the growth of relationships among residents, staff: and resident's families.

Plan and host special event parties for residents in coordination with other departments, such as Food Service and care staff.

Utilize available community resources through contact with organizations and volunteers to promote resident participation in community-centered activities, such as senior citizens' clubs, concerts, tours and plays.

Safe utilize and store activity supplies.

Report any known or suspected elderly abuse to the appropriate agencies, including but not limited to Ombudsman, and Community Care Licensing.

Provide administrative assistance as scheduled or directed.

Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent

The Life Enrichment Coordinator must be professional and be at least 18 years of age

Preferred: Additional course work on training in elderly care or activities

Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician

All employees must keep their FIRST-AID certification current. Experience Prior experience in providing planned activities and programs for the elderly and meets the requirements of the licensing agency.

Prior experience providing programs addressing the special needs of people with high physical frailty and cognitive challenges such as dementia or mental health diagnoses.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability To effectively execute the Life Enrichment program

Ability to lead out in activities, coordinate with other personnel to make sure person-directed activities are relevant, timely, and consistent.

Must be organized, keeping the calendar as planned.

Mental Must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure.

Be able to handle multiple tasks at one time.

Must be able to make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulations

Body positioning: Spend time bending, twisting or lifting up to 50 pounds, keeping or regaining balance, making repetitive motions, standing, using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, walking and running
