Mission Statement of the Office of State Fire Marshal: To uphold the law and provide for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion, to ensure the safety of our citizens in the constructed environment, to provide equal access to disabled individuals and to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings.
This position uses the Louisiana State Civil Service Hiring Framework System and is looking for applicants for the following Competencies:

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in the issuance, maintenance, or reinstatement of licenses; OR
Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR
A bachelors degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Interprets and explains statutes, agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for licensure to officials, the public, staff, potential licensees, etc.
Receives, examines, and analyzes data submitted by and/or on Behalf of each applicant for accuracy, authenticity, and completeness of factual information to document determination of eligibility for registration and qualification for Life Safety and Property Protection, Amusements, Fireworks, Pyrotechnic Operators, Wholesalers, Firework Displays, Conveyances licensure.
Reviews application to determine if requisite licensure and/or registration fees have been received by agency. Receives and processes payments for licensure fees and notices of violations in accordance with RS 40:1664, et.seq and applicable rules.
Conducts pre-licensure review of criminal backgrounds for eligibility of each applicant for property protection licenses. Such review may be through contact with applicants or discussions with legal staff. Assists firms and employees in the determination of the type of license needed from over 47 occupational licenses/endorsements.
Assists employees with examination information for pyrotechnic operator license, which requires examination. Assigns official license numbers incorporating one or multiple endorsements and analyzes and prepares license for same.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation: The minimum salary will be offered.
