Job Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse II

Salary Range: $57,320 to $67,435

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Neurology is looking to recruit a Licensed Vocational Nurse II to serve as the clinical coordinator for the Neuromuscular practice and ALS multidisciplinary clinic in the Texas Medical Center. The candidate will work directly with physician leadership, clinical management, and clinical support staff to serve the patients and their families. A successful candidate will manage complex patient cases, coordinate care plans, provide educational resources, and help patients navigate the treatment process.

Job Duties

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses with various medical procedures.
  • Administers a variety of tests and medications and takes patients' vital signs.
  • Schedules appointments, tests, and procedures for patients.
  • Collects pertinent clinical data to support the RN, APP and/or MD with patient clinical telephone calls, refers and preauthorizes treatment, and provides information to patient.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient's electronic medical record.
  • Manages Epic in-basket messages, coordinates referrals, and enters orders for patient testing.
  • Coordinates home health, palliative care, hospice care, and durable medical equipment needs for patients.
  • Helps patients understand social security, disability, and Medicare services available for patients with a diagnosis of ALS.
  • Partners with ALS Association for equipment needs that patient is unable to obtain with insurance (from ALSA loaner closet).
  • Creates pre-clinic patient summary sheets, provide after-clinic summary sheets to the patient, and maintain documentation for the ALS clinic.
  • Attends ALS Clinic huddle on 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month before clinic.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
  • Two years of relevant experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Neurology experience.
