Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the assessment of the needs of the patient. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Participates in development, interpretation, documentation of plan of care for each patient. Provides patient and/or family teaching as necessary and acts as a liaison between patient/family and physician. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with office standards. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Provides skilled and safe nursing care to assigned patients. Assists physician with examination/treatments. Follows through on predictable problems. Provides safe patient care. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of normal limits of vital signs and commonly used lab tests by reporting abnormal findings and reporting them to the physician. Demonstrates an understanding of the medical plan of care and ensures that physician orders are implemented promptly and accurately. Carries out physician's orders as assigned and confers with physician for clarification of orders when necessary. Consistently performs treatments with precise techniques which may include drawing blood and administering medications by injection. Administers and records medication accurately. Schedules diagnostic testing and doctor referrals.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and educates patient/family on working diagnosis, appropriate course of treatment, pertinent diagnostic findings, and physician recommendations for future follow-up care. Demonstrates a positive, constructive attitude providing the patient/family with a sense of security. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Provides written resource material. Documents family education, nursing reassessments and interventions accurately, clearly and concisely according to the unit standard. Evaluates and documents in the patient record response to nursing intervention. Ensure blood and urine specimens are delivered to the lab in a time appropriate manner.
  • Acts as advocate for providing safe delivery of patient care. Informs physician of change in patient condition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of dosage, route, action, side effects and contraindications of medications. Utilizes resources as necessary. Administers medications following physician orders, practice policies and procedures. Identifies drug interactions. Knows antidotes/treatments for medication overdose. Knows antidotes/treatments for medication infiltrations. Calculates all dosages accurately. Phones in or faxes prescription refills at physicians' request. Documents appropriately.
  • Keeps exam rooms, lab and personal work stations neat and orderly. Able to set up and operate equipment used in practice. Reports all damaged equipment to department/person per policy. Replaces, removes and return equipment and supplies as appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned, which may include answering telephones and helping receptionist if appropriate.
  • Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency. Responsible for maintaining patient charts. Including filing of all information back into charts in a timely manner. Maintains neatness of medical record room/area.
  • Contributes to practice quality improvement activities as needed. Participates in educational programs and research that contribute to the improvement of nursing practice.
  • Accepts and uses instructions and guidance from physician and practice supervisor. Seeks feedback on own performance to grow and improve. Participates in educational programs, which enhance area of practice. Participates in orientation of new personnel when requested. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings. Takes responsibility for reading minutes of all meetings and integrating information into practice.
  • Quality of work is accurate and thorough. Functions within attendance requirements and is prepared to start promptly at beginning of shift. Follows sick time policy, and follows policy and procedure regarding Overtime usage, breaks and vacation time usage.
  • Adheres to the quality service standards. Seeks help and assists in developing solutions for problems. Sets priorities and assures the completion of care for all patients. Appraises situation and condition of patient and informs physician of changes. Gives pertinent, accurate, concise, organized report; documents on record accordingly. Inputs or retrieves information from information system. Manifests desired behavior change in response to guidance. Maintains confidentiality of patient-related issues. Is supportive of patient rights.
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve all processes and abilities. Employee knows how to report and, when applicable, reports compliance issues in an appropriate and effective manner. Seeks ways to save time and money while eliminating wastefulness. Customer expectations and needs are catered to and exceeded when possible. Seeks to reduce customer waiting and inconvenience. Serves all customers (internal and external) with the same effort. Takes pride in his/her work. Employee helps other departments/employees with compliance as they are identified.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environments and infection control standards.
  • Makes efficient use/management of time. Assist with implementations of new rules and regulations and the training of the medical assistants. Assists by providing input for the yearly clinical and initial evaluations of the certified medical assistants. Cooperates well with practice supervisor, co-workers and subordinates, and follows instructions. Situations are evaluated using good judgment with minimal supervision. Takes initiative to get things done with minimal motivation.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Current LPN licensure with the Georgia Board of Nursing.

Education Required:

Graduate of an accredited program of practical nursing.

Experience Required:

Two years clinical experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meeting and workshops, shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be able to stand/walk 10-12 hours per day. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift, push, and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with/without assistance. (Patient weights may range from less than 90 pounds to 400+ pounds). Frequently to constantly carries items with one or both hands. Frequently pushes/pulls carts (with wheels) up to 50 pounds, over tile and carpet. Occasionally uses step stool to reach supplies. Frequently stoops and bends. Frequently reaches at arms' length. Must have good corrected vision and hearing. Must be able to read, write, and make various mathematical calculations. Frequent hand twisting when opening bottles/bags, turning knobs, positioning patients, performing procedures, etc. Must have physical strength and mobility to assist, lift, maneuver patients without injury to patient, sell, or other health care workers and respond to medical emergencies such as performing CPR to include chest compressions if needed.

Provides nursing care within the physician office under the supervision of the Clinical Operations Manager; coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with physician and Clinical Operations Manager about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in hemodynamic status or response to treatment.
