Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) job overview:

  • Performs position specific job functions at an acceptable level with minimal direction.

  • Exceed expectations of internal and external customers: Patients, families, physicians, colleagues, visitors, and vendors

  • Provide the highest level of care to those individuals and healthcare organizations we serve through our valued team of professionals.

  • Administers nursing care within scope of practice under direction of registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Administers controlled drugs such as narcotics & minor tranquilizers & non-controlled medications.

  • Maintains medication accountability records; observes documents & reports patient conditions. Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.

  • Educates patient / family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.

  • Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems.

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments. Administers injections, performs EKG testing.

  • Assists physicians with physical exams, treatments &/or laboratory tests. Assists in emergencies by administering first-aid, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation &/or restraining patients.

  • Provides general care to patients. Assists with personal grooming & hygiene, bathing, or daily living activities.

  • Accurately records vital signs, reconciles patients' medications, allergies, and current problem list. Documents needed prescription refills and/or other vital clinical information.

  • Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatment, examination and testing of patients.

  • Responsible for reporting improperly operating medical equipment and instruments to supervisor.


  • Regularly interacts with physicians and other departments to identify and resolve problems. Responds to / refers to incoming patient treatment related phone calls.

  • Maintains patient, employee and clinic confidentiality. Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials.

  • Ensures cleanliness of exam areas. Cleans nurses' station & medication room/medication cart.

  • Restocks medication carts. Orders medication & medical supplies


Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - job qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Graduate from an accredited college, university, or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited.

  • License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing

  • CPR - AHA, ARC or Other

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
