This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C.M. Tucker JR. Nurse Care Center- Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden Street Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Licensed Practical Nurse, Institutional you will be responsible for the nursing care of residents on a unit. You will direct and supervise the Certified Nursing Assistants in giving nursing care.

Responsibilities for the Licensed Practical Nurse, Institutional:

  • Administer medications, treatments and perform other nursing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of nursing care by observing residents, reporting observations to charge person, and accurately document observations.
  • Make frequent nursing rounds, supervise nursing care, and evaluate and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for residents.
  • Promote optimum comfort, rest, and rehabilitative nursing care for residents.
  • Assess residents and participate in resident care planning.
  • Assist in coordination and evaluation of CNAs by effective assignments, supervision, and completion of evaluation and counseling.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Licensure as a licensed practical nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and at least one (1) year of nursing experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors. May function as a charge nurse in the absence of a registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Be able to maintain attention to detail.
  • Be able to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients.
