The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Licensed Clinical Therapists II.

Licensed Clinical Therapists II are lead workers who direct a small clinical staff. Typical duties consist of:

• Providing clinical and administrative consultation to their staff; • Screening prospective clients for appropriateness of program services; • Intervening in crisis situations; • Auditing and monitoring charts; • Utilization review; • Payment authorization; • And participating in providing rehabilitative mental health/substance abuse services in clinic, institutional, field, and community settings to clients with severe mental, emotional, and substance abuse disorders.

The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues.

DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders.

DBH also provides an array of outreach/engagement, prevention, and early intervention services.

Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting and medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.

Shifts: Some programs offer 24-hour services; some assignments may require employees to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call. Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required depending on assignment. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation (mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate is available).

Clinical Supervision Differential: Clinical therapists currently providing clinical supervision to Pre-Licensed Clinical Therapists or Pre-Licensed Psychologists are eligible for additional compensation.

Detention Differential: Clinical therapists regularly assigned to work in detention facilities receive additional compensation. Indicate your interest and availability for positions assigned to detention facilities on the supplemental questionnaire.

Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

  • License: Must be licensed in the State of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). A copy of license is required upon appointment. Licensure must be active, unrestricted, and in good standing.
  • Experience: One (1) year, within the last five (5) years, of direct service post-license experience as a licensed therapist in a behavioral health or social service setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills.
  • The following experience is highly desirable:
  • Possesses knowledge of clinical supervisor requirements
  • Has completed a minimum of fifteen (15) contact hours in supervision training
  • Two (2) or more years of experience providing clinical supervision to Registered Associate MFTs, Registered Associate PCCs, or Registered Associate CSWs or pre-degree clinical interns within the last five (5) years
  • One (1) or more years of experience providing clinical or administrative supervision over clinical interns and/or trainees
  • Experience in a behavioral health or social service setting in a leadership role either managing a special assignment or providing occasional supervisory coverage
  • Interagency collaboration experience
  • Education and/or training experience
