UAS is currently seeking applicants for Student Library Assistants! We schedule your desk shifts around your course load. No previous library experience is required - full on-the-job training! This is a great opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week on campus while going to school!
Duties generally are routine in nature and decision-making is limited (e.g., may make routine decisions about assigned work in absence of immediate supervision.) Needs to be self-motivated to work independently with intermittent supervision.
Enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service to all: students, faculty, and community members.
Communicates clearly and has a friendly, welcoming demeanor.
Must have a positive work ethic, be very reliable, and maintain complete confidentiality of patron records.
Should be a collaborative problem solver and positive team member.
Willingness to provide primary coverage of front circulation desk and flexibility to assist on multiple assigned projects throughout library under various library staff.
Ability to be trained for competency with library circulation software.
Capable of learning both the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal item identification and location systems and use for accurate shelving and retrieval of library materials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled as a UA student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a newly enrolled student.
No specific prior experience is required \u2013 all training will be provided!
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Juneau. This is a part-time Student Assistant 1 position, starting with an hourly rate of $13.11.
