About the Position

The Mississippi Library Commission is seeking a Library Services Director to lead the Library Services Department by overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, public service delivery, and statewide library support. The Director provides leadership for reference services, resource sharing, large print services, collection development, reporting, workflow improvement, and support for Mississippi's public libraries. This position is responsible for coordinating departmental operations, supervising staff, developing policies and procedures, monitoring service delivery, reporting statistics, and collaborating with public libraries, vendors, community partners, and agency leadership to ensure efficient, innovative, and sustainable library services. Occasional statewide and out-of-state travel is required to visit libraries, provide training, attend meetings and conferences, and support agency initiatives.

Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with sound judgment and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, public libraries, vendors, community partners, and agency leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Master's Degree and 3 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications: A master's degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of three years of professional librarian experience are required. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience in a library or public service setting and demonstrated success leading professional staff. A successful applicant will have experience in library administration, public services, staff supervision, program coordination, and workflow improvement. Experience with staff management, reference services, resource sharing, collection development, library systems, public library training, statewide library support, and developing innovative library services is preferred.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
