COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
• $20.00/hour
• Rotating schedule within branch operating hours:
• Monday: Closed
• Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Wednesday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Thursday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Sunday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• W2 | Full-Time
ROLE IMPACT
The Library Public Service Specialist I serves as a vital connection between the library and the community by providing reference assistance, technology support, and access to educational resources. This role helps ensure patrons of all ages receive exceptional service while promoting literacy, digital inclusion, and community engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist patrons with reference inquiries using library catalogs, databases, digital content platforms, and internet resources
• Provide support with computers, job searches, library accounts, circulation services, and basic technology troubleshooting
• Build positive relationships with patrons, community organizations, and local partners
• Assist with library programming, outreach efforts, displays, reading lists, and educational presentations
• Support daily branch operations including opening and closing procedures, shelving materials, check-in services, and maintaining an organized environment
• Promote equitable access to library services and resources for all community members
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in English, Library Science, History, or a related field; OR an Associate degree (60 college credit hours) with additional qualifying experience
• Two (2) years of customer service or library services experience
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to provide exceptional service in a public-facing environment
CORE TOOLS & SYSTEMS
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Library catalog and integrated library systems (ILS)
• Research databases and digital content platforms
• Internet research tools and online resources
• Public-access computer systems and technology support tools
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Spanish or additional language proficiency
• Experience working with diverse populations and patrons of all ages
• Passion for community outreach, public service, and lifelong learning
