Job Title: Library Media Specialist

Credential Preferred: Valid Library Media Specialist (LMS) License/Certification
Position Summary
The Library Media Specialist (LMS) provides leadership in the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive school library programs serving both elementary and middle/high school students. This position promotes literacy, digital citizenship, and information fluency while supporting student learning and staff instruction. The LMS facilitates scheduled library instruction, teaches foundational technology skills, maintains two library spaces, and manages the district's school social media platforms to enhance communication and community engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
Library Instruction & Student Learning
- Facilitate regularly scheduled library time for elementary students, fostering a love of reading and foundational literacy skills
- Teach basic computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation, and responsible technology use
- Deliver instruction in digital safety, digital citizenship, and appropriate online behavior
- Support student research skills, including locating, evaluating, and using information effectively
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library and media resources into instruction
Library Management & Operations
- Oversee and manage two library spaces: elementary and middle/high school libraries
- Maintain and organize library collections, including cataloging, circulation, and inventory management
- Evaluate, select, and update materials to ensure relevance, diversity, and alignment with curriculum
- Manage library budgets, purchasing, and resource allocation
- Ensure both library environments are welcoming, organized, and conducive to learning
Technology Integration
- Support students and staff in the use of educational technology tools
- Promote digital literacy skills aligned with academic standards and district initiatives
- Troubleshoot basic technology issues and coordinate with IT support as needed
Social Media & Communications
- Manage and maintain the district's school social media platforms
- Create and curate content that highlights student learning, school events, and district initiatives
- Ensure all social media content aligns with district policies, privacy guidelines, and branding expectations
- Collaborate with administration and staff to promote positive school communication and community engagement
Program Development & Leadership
- Develop and promote programs that encourage reading engagement and lifelong learning
- Support school-wide literacy initiatives and events (e.g., book fairs, reading challenges)
- Serve as a resource for staff on instructional materials and digital tools
- Maintain accurate records and usage data for program evaluation and reporting
Qualifications
- Valid Library Media Specialist (LMS) license/certification preferred
- Knowledge of library science practices, instructional technology, and digital literacy
- Experience working with students across multiple grade levels preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across two library settings
