Job Description: Library Media Specialist / Technology Director

Job Summary

The Library Media Specialist / Technology Director oversees the school's library services, instructional technology, and district assessment coordination. This multifaceted role manages and maintains all student and staff technology-including Chromebooks, iPads, computers, and projectors-while administering device management systems, student safety software, digital platform rostering, and user accounts.

The Director supports teaching and learning by providing technology instruction to students across multiple grade levels, leading library classes, and training staff on emerging tools and programs. Responsibilities also include maintaining the school library through collection development, budgeting, inventory, and creating an engaging reading environment. Additionally, the Director serves as the District Assessment Coordinator, organizing and administering state and district testing by managing testing platforms, coordinating schedules, training staff, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring compliance with required assessment timelines.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Technology Management & IT Administration
  • Device Maintenance: Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all school devices, including Chromebooks, computers, iPads, and classroom projectors.

  • Student Device Fleet: Manage the distribution and upkeep of student devices (iPads for grades 4K-1st; Chromebooks for grades 2nd-8th).

  • Summer Prep & Roll-Out: Reconfigure apps, update software, and assign student/classroom accounts during the summer to ensure a seamless rollout for the start of the school year.

  • Mobile Device Management (MDM): Enroll iPads in Jamf to enforce web filtering, manage configurations, and deploy/administer new apps for students and staff.

  • Student Safety: Monitor and maintain student safety and internet filtering software (Securly).

  • Rostering & Account Creation: Set up official school emails and logins for all new students and staff. Complete all digital rostering for school curriculum and digital platforms (e.g., iReady, Amplify, Seesaw).

  1. Instructional & Teaching Responsibilities
  • Middle School Technology: Teach dedicated "Tech" elective/specials classes to grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.

  • Early Childhood Technology: Teach foundational technology skills to 4K and 5K students as part of their specials rotation.

  • Elementary Library Classes: Lead library media classes for grades 4K, 5K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to foster literacy and research skills.

  • Staff Professional Development: Act as the building tech expert; introduce, share, and train teachers on new technologies, software, and digital programs to enhance classroom learning.

  1. Library Media Center Operations
  • Daily Operations: Oversee daily library functions, including book circulation, processing new materials, and shelving.

  • Collection & Curriculum Support: Curate specialized book and media collections for teachers to utilize for research and targeted learning units in their classrooms.

  • Budget & Inventory: Manage the library budget, purchase new books and instructional materials, and conduct a comprehensive physical inventory at the end of each school year.

  • Environment: Create and maintain a vibrant, welcoming physical library environment that encourages reading, curiosity, and exploration.

  • Strategic Planning: Create, update, and maintain the official District Library Plan.

  1. District Assessment Coordination
  • Test Administration: Serve as the District Assessment Coordinator, overseeing the logistics, scheduling, and compliance of all state and district standardized testing.

  • Platform & Tech Prep: Configure and test online testing platforms; troubleshoot any hardware or connectivity issues prior to and during testing windows.

  • Staff Training: Train proctors and school staff on testing protocols, security measures, and accommodations.

  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to state and district assessment timelines, guidelines, and security requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Education, Library Science, Educational Technology, or a related field (Master''s degree or specific Library Media Specialist / Educational Technology certifications preferred).

  • Technical Expertise: Experience with MDM software (Jamf), student filtering tools (Securly), and automated student rostering. Proficiency troubleshooting hardware (Chromebooks, Apple iOS, Windows, AV equipment).

  • Instructional Skills: Proven ability to design and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons in technology and literacy to students ranging from 4K through 8th grade.

  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional project management skills required to handle district testing schedules, library budgets, and large-scale device deployments.

Working Conditions: This position requires active movement between classrooms, IT workspaces, and the library media center. Summer hours are required to facilitate the annual technology roll-out and system updates.
