- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Valid Mississippi teaching license with necessary endorsements to be "Highly Qualified".
- Such other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the
Board may specify.
JOB GOALS:
To provide each pupil with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and development of skills needed to take full advantage of library resources.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new library materials.
- Assists teachers in selection of library materials.
- Maintains a comprehensive and effective system for cataloging all library materials and instructs teachers and students in its uses.
- Stays abreast of and communicates with others technology advances related to text/media.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
- Teaches skills in use of materials for reference and helps students plan for extensive use of them.
- Serves as resource personnel for class visits.
- Arranges inviting displays and makes frequent changes to heighten interest in reading and library utilization.
- Participates in curriculum meetings.
- Assists in planning library budget.
- Supervises aides and assistants if used.
- To assure the constant function of the library as an integral part of the total school program.
- Supplement the work of the classroom teacher by stimulating and encouraging interest in recreational reading and by giving reading guidance to children.
- Develop the atmosphere and services of the library in such a way that the library will become a place which students and faculty will enjoy using because of its pleasing and friendly atmosphere.
- Familiarizes self with the entire school program and becomes alert to changes in materials and methods.
- Stimulates and guides students in their reading and in their use of communication media.
- Utilizes every opportunity to help the library in his school reach standards of excellence.
- Works with teachers in motivating students to use the library frequently.
- Works closely with classroom teachers and other faculty members and does everything possible to make the school library of optimum service to them.
- Provides a variety of professional materials for teachers.
- Assists teachers in the development of effective techniques for using the resources of the library.
- Keeps teachers informed about new materials that have been added to the
library.
- Helps teachers in the preparation of bibliographies and reading lists.
- Locates information and performs other reference and searching services for teachers.
- Provides informal in-service training for teachers about library resources, sources of information for printed and audio-visual materials, the evaluation of materials, and related topics.
- Serves as a resource consultant for teachers.
- Conducts an annual inventory of library books, materials and equipment.
- Attends all in-service, faculty and professional meetings.
- Establishes the media program as an integral part of the total instructional program.
- Provides guidance and assistance to students and teachers in the use of the library media center and its resources in order to meet instructional objectives and to provide individual enrichment.
- Establishes and maintains an atmosphere conducive to individual and group inquiry, research, study and leisure time activities.
- Organizes the media program to assure optimum use of resources and facilities by students and teachers.
- Exercises leadership in the development of the library media program.
- Develops and maintains a library policy and procedures manual to include inventories of print, non-print and equipment resources.
- Assists instructional staff by providing students with sequential instruction in library use which reinforces the requirements of the instructional management plan.
