Role and Responsibilities

The Library Media Assistant supports the daily operations of the school library while fostering a positive environment that encourages literacy, curiosity, and lifelong learning. This position assists students and staff with library resources, instructional technology, and media services while maintaining an organized and welcoming library space.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operation of the library circulation desk, including checking materials in and out.

  • Support students and staff with Chromebooks, library technology, printers, and other instructional technology.

  • Troubleshoot basic technology issues and communicate more complex issues to the Technology Department.

  • Catalog, process, label, shelve, inventory, and repair library materials.

  • Maintain accurate library records and assist with overdue notices, inventory, and collection management.

  • Assist students and staff in locating books, digital resources, and instructional materials.

  • Create and maintain attractive library displays that promote literacy and student engagement.

  • Assist in organizing and supporting literacy initiatives, book fairs, reading challenges, Battle of the Books, and other library events.

  • Supervise students in the library and promote a safe, respectful, and welcoming learning environment.

  • Support classroom instruction by preparing materials and assisting teachers with library and media resources.

  • Maintain the organization, appearance, and cleanliness of the library and media center.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and district staff to support instructional and school goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
