RATE OF PAY: $15-$18/HOUR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
A Library Associate is the public face of the library and upholds the library’s standards of providing a welcoming, accessible environment. A Library Associate primarily helps with public facing library tasks, including circulating materials, reference transactions, and program help. They have a high level of comfort working with the public as their duties include providing excellent customer service to meet user circulation and reference needs; reader's advisory; displays; promoting and aiding with adult and juvenile programs and outreach services; and providing some general office support. Confidentiality of patron records is crucial, and a Library Associate maintains patron privacy. Work schedules do vary, but include weekend and evening shifts. Work is performed under the general supervision the Assistant Directors and is evaluated through conferences, observations, reports, and the general response of the public. Considerable judgment and discretion are required in performing all library functions.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Undergraduate degree required. Experience in library work preferred. Previous experience working with the public required. Experience in use of Windows-based software required. Must have a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs. in order to handle book trucks, shelve books, assist patrons, and organize shelves.
