Library Assistant / PreKindergarten Classroom Aide

Position Summary

The Library Assistant / PreKindergarten Classroom Aide serves in a dual role supporting student learning through library services in the morning and assisting in the PreKindergarten classroom during the afternoon. This position fosters a love of reading, helps maintain an organized and welcoming library environment, and provides instructional and classroom support to PreKindergarten teachers and students.

Essential Responsibilities

Morning Responsibilities - Library Assistant

  • Welcome students, faculty, and parents to the library in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Read aloud to Preschool through elementary classes, promoting literacy and a love of reading.
  • Assist students in selecting age-appropriate books and other library materials.
  • Check library materials in and out using the schools library management system.
  • Organize, shelve, and maintain books and instructional materials in proper order.
  • Inspect returned materials and report damaged or lost items.
  • Prepare books and displays that promote seasonal themes, curriculum units, and reading initiatives.
  • Assist with inventory, labeling, processing, and repairing library materials.
  • Support teachers by locating books and instructional resources.
  • Help coordinate and manage the annual school Book Fair, including setup, sales, volunteer coordination, and cleanup.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting library environment.
  • Supervise students in the library while ensuring appropriate behavior and care of materials.
  • Support school-wide literacy initiatives and special reading events.

Afternoon Responsibilities - PreKindergarten Classroom Aide

  • Assist the PreKindergarten teacher with daily classroom routines and instructional activities.
  • Work with individual students and small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and instructional resources.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, transitions, and dismissal as assigned.
  • Encourage positive behavior and model respectful interactions.
  • Assist with classroom organization and cleanliness.
  • Help students develop independence, social skills, and classroom routines.
  • Support the teacher with assessments, projects, and special classroom events.
  • Communicate professionally with faculty, staff, and parents as directed by the classroom teacher or administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families.
