Mercy University Libraries' is seeking self-motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented candidates to fill a patron centered support role within the Dobbs Ferry Campus Circulation team. Reporting to the Associate Director, the position's primary duties will include supervising library circulation and reserve operations, assisting students and faculty with library resources and related technology needs. The Library Assistant will collaborate with branch circulation supervisors, the systems librarian, and reference librarians. Additionally, the position will monitor front desk inquiries, library computers, printers, and software resources and support the Associate Director in printing student research posters and related tasks. Candidates should be friendly, open-minded, and technologically inquisitive. Good communication skills and customer service orientation are a must.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

- Oversee & perform library circulation operations (check-in/out of materials)
- Provide assistance printing and tracking student research posters
- Checkout and monitor student laptop lending
- Process and monitor intercampus loan requests
- Explain and enforce library policies (e.g., loan periods, reserve policies, noise guidelines, study room bookings) with clarity and diplomacy
- Assist library patrons (students, staff, faculty, and general public) with using OCLC WMS or other Integrated Library System's (ILS)/Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
- Refer students to a reference librarian when appropriate via phone or online chat
- Instruct students, faculty, and staff in the proper use of library equipment
- Basic troubleshooting of PC's, printers, copiers & scanners; elevate issues to Helpdesk as necessary
- Support students, faculty, and staff in the use of library computer hardware and software including, OCLC WMS, internet browsers & MS Office 365 suite
- Assist in monitoring quote, requisition, purchase order processing
- Assist with library personnel reimbursement
- Opens and closes the library as scheduled
- Manage patron requests for information, service and/or support
- Assist in oversight and delegate shelf reading assignments to student assistants
- Report facility or maintenance issues as required
- Perform other duties/projects as assigned
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum one year of experience with an automated library system, preferred
- Working knowledge of computer hardware and software programs including but not limited to MS Office 365, OCLC WMS, etc. Adobe CC (a plus)
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, written, oral communication, problem-solving, organizational, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated evidence of detail-orientation, customer service orientation, and ability to work independently
- Ability to work and travel to other Mercy campuses as needed
- Flexibility to work days or evenings
- Bilingual a plus
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; Associates degree or some college credits required
Physical/Other Requirements:
- Position requires evening availability
- Must be able to work at different campus libraries when needed
- Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 30 lbs.
