Notice of Anticipated Vacancy 2026-2027

POSITION: Library Media Specialist (1.0 FTE)

LOCATION: Weston Middle School

Job Goal: To develop a culture of literacy through text and various media tools by maximizing the purpose and use of the library media center for todays learner; and to empower students to become independent users of information and navigate the complex world of media with expertise and a discerning eye.

This is an opportunity for a Library Media Specialist to craft a vision of a modern day media center as the hub of Westons only middle school. The Learning Commons is currently host to a Think Tank classroom and TV Studio and supports the work of the Project Challenge program.

Qualifications:

  • Holds or is eligible for CT certification as a school Library Media Specialist (062)
  • Possesses a degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable of establishing positive and productive working relationships with teachers and students
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities:

Instruction

  • Works collaboratively with teachers in the critical areas of designing authentic learning tasks and integrating the information and communication abilities required to meet subject matter standards.
  • Leads educational technology integration school-wide.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers to integrate technology standards into classroom curriculum and instruction.
  • Provides instruction in classrooms and/or the library media center.

Professional Learning:

  • Knowledgeable about current research on teaching and learning and skilled in applying its findings to a variety of situations.
  • Leads professional learning for technology education and digital skills.
  • Supports the implementation of high-quality technological resources in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with district media specialists.
  • Represents the school in communications to families regarding safe technology use and age-appropriate expectations.

Technology Integration

  • Supports the implementation of school-wide instructional technology, supporting staff, students, and families.
  • Collaborates with district IT staff.

Library Media Center Management:

  • Operates and supervises the Library Learning Commons
  • Advocates for the library media program and provides the knowledge, vision, and leadership to steer it creatively and energetically.
  • Curates and organizes a diverse collection of print and digital resources to support the school-wide curriculum.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging resources and making them accessible to students and staff.
  • Monitors and analyzes use of library media center resources.
  • Administers school-based research databases.
  • Prepares, manages and administers the media center budget, equipment, and facilities, and evaluates the program to ensure its quality both at a general level and on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supervises the media center para-educator in the performance of their duties.
  • Maintains a welcoming and productive atmosphere in the library media center.
  • Manages the distribution of student technological devices.

Other

  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities of a certified professional as the Principal may assign from time to time.
