Proposed Posting Date Classification Duties

SUNY New Paltz is seeking a hybrid full-time three-year renewable lecturer with a specialty in either School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling to join its newly CACREP-accredited and growing Counselor Education Department. The lecturer will have a 30-credit per year workload equivalent of five 3-credit classes taught in-person or online per semester with possible release time for commensurate department service e.g. coordinating our Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling Program advising students serving on departmental committees. This position will start in August 2026.

Specific tasks for this position include:

• Teach graduate courses in School Counseling and/or Mental Health Counseling such as School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling Practicum, and Internship • Couple & Family Professional Roles Assessment • Psychopathology • Research Methods • Program Evaluation • Multicultural Counseling

Provide group and/or individual supervision for students completing their clinical placements. Advise graduate students academically and regarding post-graduation certification/licensure requirements. Evaluate students academic success, adherence to professional standards, counseling skill competence, and professional behaviors and dispositions. Serve on departmental committees; no university service expected.

Qualifications

Required

• Doctoral degree in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or doctoral degree in a related area accompanied by experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. • Excellent ABD candidates with a firm date of completion preferably by July 1, 2026 will be considered. • Demonstrated professional identity as and commitment to an identity as a counselor educator as defined by CACREP with clear affiliations to relevant counseling associations (i.e. membership with ACA/ACES). • Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of racial inequalities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups. • Demonstrated commitment and contributions to social justice advocacy through teaching, mentoring, students, research, and/or service. • The ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from intersecting marginalized social groups.

Preferred

• Previous in-person and online teaching experience. • Experience as a School Counselor and/or Clinical Mental Health Counselor. • Certification as a School Counselor and/or licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or eligibility for certification/licensure in New York State. • Experience with CACREP accreditation.
