The Mahopac Central School District seeks to fill the following anticipated position for the 2026-2027 school year:
Special Education Teacher - Leave Replacement - Lakeview Elementary School
Anticipated Effective Dates - September 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027
Qualifications:
- Valid NYS certification in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) required.
- Experience implementing reading intervention and monitoring student progress.
- Experience in Specially Designed Instruction and co-teaching preferred.
- Knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques
- Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively and actively communicate with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents;
- Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills.
- Experience administering standardized assessments
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborate with General Education Teachers Co-plan and co-deliver instruction in inclusive classroom settings. Align teaching strategies with general curriculum standards and individual student needs.
- Develop and Implement IEPs Write and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations. Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Differentiate Instruction Provide targeted instruction based on students' learning styles and needs. Adapt materials and strategies to ensure access for all learners.
- Use Data to Drive Instruction Collect and analyze student performance data. Modify instruction based on formative assessments and behavioral data.
- Support Behavioral and Social-Emotional Development Implement behavior intervention plans and positive behavioral supports. Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Communicate with Families and Staff Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress. Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and team meetings.
- Ensure Compliance and Documentation Maintain accurate records, including IEP paperwork, service logs, and progress reports. Follow school, district, and state guidelines for special education services.
- Engage in Professional Development Attend training sessions and stay current on best practices in special education and inclusive teaching.
