Department SummaryMITRE’s Technology & Engineering Organization has an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic technical team having a substantial impact on the design and development of communications systems in support of various U.S. Government agencies, including the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and others. Our sponsors rely on a wide range of wireless communications systems, including commercial radios, cellular technologies, satellite communications, tactical data links, and other mission-critical systems. We assess, design, analyze, prototype, and test advanced communications technologies to further the public good. Join our team and apply your technical expertise by developing, applying, prototyping and testing state-of-the-art digital communications technologies, such as: + Communication systems + Development of Airborne, Tactical, and Satellite Communications terminals + Development of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communications terminals in HF and VLF frequencies Job Responsibilities: + Support communications systems development and analysis by designing and analyzing innovative waveform components such as synchronization, forward error correction, spread spectrum technologies, medium access control, channel equalization, interference cancellation, etc. + Document and provide recommendations for improvements to communication systems including areas such as system resilience, networking, electronic warfare, capacity, etc. + Perform modeling and simulation activities of communication systems. + Design and verify real-time signal processing modules for a FPGA implementation of next generation military communication receivers. + Use software defined radios to implement communication protocols and perform signal analysis. + Investigate optimal quantization strategies for digital receivers in the presence of adverse channel conditions. + Develop code to interact with custom hardware peripherals to provide status and control interfaces to higher-level software on a complex SoC prototype. Required Qualifications: + Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or Master’s degree and 6 years; or a PhD and 3 years with relevant experience. + Five or more years of experience in communications and digital signal processing such as detection and estimation, information theory, spread spectrum communications, waveform design, modulation theory, error control coding, channel equalization, interference cancellation, algorithm development, receiver design, embedded software, advanced wireless protocols. + Active Secret Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance. + Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance. + This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site Preferred Qualifications: + Possess an active Top-Secret clearance. + Masters or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline + C++, Python, MATLAB, or other modeling tools, data analysis, field and lab testing equipment. + Experience writing VHDL or Verilog for FPGAs + Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
