JOB TITLE: Early Education Lead Teacher SUPERVISOR: Early Education Director

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Early Education Director, the Lead Teacher provides direction for the classroom
and staff. Implements program curriculum in the classroom. Provides a quality experience to children and
parents that focuses on the YMCA core values honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The ideal candidate
must meet the Kansas Licensing requirement for the Lead Teacher Position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Must stay within Kansas Department of Health and Environment licensing regulations.
- Complete 16 in-service training hours per year as required by state regulations.
- Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Design and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
- Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities.
- Conducts parent conferences and maintain a positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
- Make ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Daily communication with the parent/guardian.
- Properly fill out the necessary paperwork.
- Coordinate group times that address all learning areas.
- Maintain children’s files and resource files.
- Behavior management in accordance with YMCA and state regulations.
- Constant cleaning throughout the day, such as wiping the tables off, keeping the floor picked up, and cleaning bathrooms according to schedule.
- Organize classrooms daily with only applicable materials.
- Notify Angel Child Care Coordinator of supplies needed.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, clean learning environment.
- Attend any staff meetings and training required by the Coordinator and the YMCA.
- Partner with the Church of the Cross staff to maintain a safe and clean facility.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and always demonstrating professional conduct.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of children and their behavior and a genuine desire to work with them.
- Experience working with children.
- Ability to build good relationship/communication skills with adults and children.
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, TB test within 30 days of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and judgment skills.
- Bring to this position maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with families.
- Possess knowledge of age-appropriate activities and expectations
- Ability to handle irate, complaining, or demanding individuals
- Able to make sound judgments and decisions, even when distracted by noise or activity.
- Must have a signed health assessment stating no physical mental limitations working with children within 30 days of hire.
- Understand diverse family dynamics, their needs, as well as the needs of at-risk children.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
- Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in different temperature environments.
- Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise them with daily activities, social
- interaction, physical and emotional needs.
- Ability to interact and participate in gross motor activities with the children.

about themselves and school. The parents of the children will be pleased with the growth and
development of their children while they attended the Salina Family YMCA Early Education Program.
Overall, the program will have great growth and stability.
