Lead Substation Engineer

Description

Seeking a Substation Physical Lead Engineer. The Lead Substation Physical Engineer serves as a client-facing point of contact engineer on electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. This individual will apply NESC, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards in the engineering design and will also independently produce high voltage physical arrangements, plan and elevations views, station grounding analysis, layout, and details, cable trough and conduit plans, AC and DC calculations to determine station service and battery system requirements, preparation of equipment specifications and bill of materials, and preparation of construction documents. He/she will also work with other internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones and expectations of contracted services are met. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Lead physical design for substations ranging from 4kV-230kV+.

  • Develop and review:

  • General Arrangements, Plans & Elevations

  • Grounding and Lightning Protection Plans

  • Cable Trough & Conduit Layouts

  • Equipment Specifications and Bills of Material

  • Construction Packages and RFP Documentation

  • Perform grounding studies, station service calculations, battery sizing, and fault stress analysis.

  • Coordinate with civil, transmission, distribution, structural, and protection & controls teams.

  • Support procurement, construction, and client technical reviews.

  • Mentor junior engineers and ensure quality project execution.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor"s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years of substation physical design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Experience with CDEGS, WinIGS, or similar grounding software.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, and utility design standards.

Preferred

  • PE License or ability to obtain within 2 years.
  • EIT Certification.
  • SDS (Substation Design Suite) experience.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, estimating, and project controls.

Ideal Candidate

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lake Mary, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
