First Steps is Missouri’s Early Intervention program that provides support and services to families with children from birth to age three who have developmental delays or disabilities. Benchmark Human Services’ St. Louis office is seeking qualified and compassionate individuals to join our team as a Lead Service Coordinator in the City of St. Louis with the Missouri First Steps program.

In this role, the Lead Service Coordinator will help infants, toddlers, and their families access services available through Missouri’s First Steps program. This position will also serve as a Mentor and Supervisor to Service Coordinators in accordance with First Steps guidelines and definitions.

Responsibilities Include: 
  • Function in both an intake and ongoing Service Coordinator (SC) role. 
  • Serve as the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) team SC and facilitator of the IFSP process for an assigned caseload.
  • Perform all responsibilities as outlined in the Service Coordinator job description. 
  • Work with little direct supervision, be organized, and meet deadlines to accomplish the administrative functions of the SPOE operation.  
  • Participate in company and state leadership meetings as requested.  
  • Provide orientation, ongoing training, mentoring and supervision of service coordinators. 
  • Convene with management team to determine information to be disseminated amongst SPOE service area personnel, and prepare for related training after state meetings. 
  • Plan and conduct zone level staff meetings. 
  • Monitor calendar activities for service coordinators. 
  • Assist with addressing complaints regarding service coordinators. 
  • Responsible for implementing service coordinator work improvement plans as needed and under the direction of the Assistant Director/Director. 
  • Support service coordinators with implementing corrective actions for compliance. 
  • Assist with implementation of SPOE administration plans. 
  • Perform child find and provider recruitment activities. 
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 
General Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following, plus one year of experience working with families and young children:  Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Child/Human Development, Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Education Administration, Sociology, Family Science/Studies, Counseling OR other Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience working with families and young children. 
  • Must have at least one year experience implementing sound business practices and in personnel supervision. 
  • Meet provider enrollment qualifications for a Service Coordinator. 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
