Lead Metrology Engineer

Seeking a highly motivated individual to lead and advance site metrology capabilities for precise, repeatable, and reliable inspection of turbine engine components.
This role will serve as a site subject matter expert in machine programming and inspection automation, supporting a range of CMM and blue light / structured light inspection systems. The work is hands-on, technical, and critical to inspection quality and turnaround time.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Develop, validate, and optimize dimensional inspection programs across CMM and blue light / structured light platforms
  • Establish standardized programming practices, including part setup / staging, datum alignment methods, and reporting consistency
  • Perform Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies to validate automated inspection programs
  • Create fixturing setups to support repeatable and efficient inspection programs
  • Troubleshoot / perform root cause and corrective action (RCCA) for programming and measurement system issues
  • Develop and maintain standard work, training materials, and troubleshooting documentation to ensure knowledge retention and consistent measurement processes
  • Train and mentor personnel on the operation of equipment and inspection programs
  • Review and approve automated program packages (including program, setup, and GR&R study), ensuring compliance with standard work and established best practices
  • Brainstorm and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site, focused on increasing automation and reducing cycle time
  • Assist in technical evaluation and implementation of new metrology equipment

    This position is for the Aftermarket & Sustainment Engineering (ASE) Inspection Center (AIC) in Dallas, TX.  This site supports part recovery through limit expansions, repair developments, and design improvements by incorporating manual, automated, digital, and analytical processes for aftermarket commercial engines.

    Required Skills
    • Expertise in dimensional inspection methods and tools, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and blue light / structured light systems
    • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings / blueprints and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles per ASME Y14.5
    • Experience performing Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies for automated inspection programs
    • Experience developing CMM inspection programs on ZEISS PRISMO (Calypso) and/or Renishaw Agility (Modus and/or PolyWorks)
    • Experience developing blue light / structured light programs using ZEISS INSPECT (GOM) on systems such as ZEISS ScanBox and/or T-SCAN Hawk 2, and KEYENCE VL and/or VR systems.
    • Ability to investigate and document measurement non-conformances
    • Demonstrated ability to document best practices and troubleshooting guides to support knowledge transfer and long-term sustainability
    • Familiarity with aerospace quality systems (e.g., ISO9001 AS9100)
    • Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing / metrology environments is strongly preferred
    Education Requirements
    • HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience
    • Or bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 5+ years of relevant experience
