GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Lead Medical Assistant takes a leadership role in the department, acting as a trainer, resource and mentor for other Medical Assistants and staff. The Lead Medical Assistant will maintain patient flow and quality during clinic hours.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Ensures accurate inventory and ordering of supplies and medication; and interacts with vendors when requested.
  • Supports the educational goals of other medical assistants, intern students, and volunteers: acts as a preceptor for MA students.
  • Supports the medical patient flow by troubleshooting problems and communicating pertinent information to providers and patients.
  • Assists the Clinic Manager in the management of medical registries required for compliance and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrates advanced skills in the use of the EMR; is able to teach EMR skills in all areas of practice.
  • Provide back-up support for the medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.
  • Assist with the training and supervision of assigned medical assistant staff.
  • Works collaboratively with clinic staff on programs to improve patient outcomes. Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities to improve systems/services.
  • Evaluate situations that may lead to errors or miscommunication and know how to correctly intervene and report.
  • Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Clinic Manager.

The expected salary range for this position is $25.00 - 27.50 per hour.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years experience as MA required
  • Requires graduation from a recognized Medical Assisting program or equivalent on the job training.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
  • BLS for the Health Care Provider or equivalent CPR class is required within 6 months.
  • Bilingual (preferably Spanish) preferred.
