Location: Ramsey, MN
Shift: 2nd Shift (2:00pm to 10:30pm) - Monday to Thursday
We have an opportunity for a skilled lead to take the next step with an established local company.
Primary Objective
The Machine Shop Lead supports the Machine Shop Manager by guiding daily operations and assisting team members to achieve high standards in quality, productivity, and on-time delivery for both internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to machinists, ensuring efficient workflow and problem-solving on the shop floor.
- Support scheduling of personnel and workloads to meet production goals.
- Diagnose machining and tooling issues, implementing corrective actions to maintain product quality.
- Interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings with GD&T specifications.
- Recommend new equipment, tooling, and supplies as needed to enhance productivity and precision.
- Maintain communication with supervisors and peers regarding progress, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist in tool room management, ensuring standard tooling inventory is properly maintained and custom tooling is sourced as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in machining technology and best practices.
- Act as the primary lead on the shop floor in the supervisor's absence.
- Ensure adherence to 5S organizational standards and safety procedures.
- Perform inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Utilize Mastercam for programming and demonstrate familiarity with SolidWorks.
- Work with CNC equipment including Haas, Toshiba, and Fanuc controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of company goals and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in machining preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on machining experience.
- Strong understanding of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining principles.
- Ability to read CNC code and make offset adjustments as needed.
- Proven ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Effective communicator with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and a desire for continuous learning and growth.
- Strong math and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in both oral and written communication.
Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing environment with moderate physical activity.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- May be required to operate various industrial machining tools and equipment as part of daily duties.

Additional Skills & Attributes

- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and skills development.
- Physical ability to lift up to 20 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work with safety gear.
- Training on 1st shift hours (5:30am – 2:00pm) for approximately 2-3 weeks.
- After successful training, transition to 2nd shift hours (2:00pm – 10:30pm).
- This position requires eligibility to obtain authorization under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Non-US Persons, as defined in the ITAR and EAR, may not be eligible to obtain authorization.
